eSIM Performance Tests
Coming in Stage 2. eSIM Observer is building a structured real-world testing program to measure what providers’ marketing copy cannot: actual throughput, latency, and roaming reliability in the field.
What Will Be Measured
- Download and upload speed — median and 90th-percentile across multiple test locations per country
- Roaming handoff — how quickly a plan connects after crossing a border
- Idle data drain — background data consumption on a travel eSIM vs. no connection
- Activation time — QR scan to first working connection, per provider
- Coverage gaps — rural and transit corridors where advertised coverage underperforms
Methodology Commitment
When the first results publish, the full methodology — device model, OS version, test dates, locations, number of runs, and statistical treatment — will appear alongside the data. No cherry-picked runs, no provider-supplied figures presented as independent measurements.
